I love Paris in the springtime.
At LeslieJane, spring is in the air. Boxes of light and airy, embroidered and lacy, decidedly romantic fashion arrive daily at the store.
As we head into a new season, I leave for Paris and the hallowed halls of the Porte de Versailles to discover what’s available for fall.
I am astonished by colour. Orange and rust predominate.
La Bottega di Brunella, Elemente Clemente, and Lilith embrace orange in varying hues and aren’t shy about wearing it on top or bottom or tied around the neck.
I am seduced by the warmth albeit lightness of wool. Manuelle Guibal and Elemente Clemente (to name only two) feature long and short coats, beautifully detailed in luxurious cashmere. There is also a wealth of merinos, alpacas, Italian and French wools by new designers vying for my attention.
I am amused by Kirsten of Elemente Clemente and my young assistant who, with a realm of feminine styles from which to choose, favour a classic tweed blazer from the men’s collection.
There is so much to see, I am overwhelmed. I also want to save some surprises.
I love Paris in the springtime but because fashion markets have to feature the next season’s styles and colours, I am happy to leave the city of romance and return to beautiful BC and open boxes – it’s almost like Christmas every change of season – to welcome news from our favourite designers and introduce a few new ones like the Swedish “Aurea Vita” who stole my heart the last time I was in Paris.
